Picking someone up: before you leave home
- Get the flight number and arrival terminal from the traveller, not just the airline name.
- Check the live arrival time on the airport or airline website before you set off.
- Agree one meeting point, and a back-up plan in case a phone battery runs flat.
- Ask the traveller to message you once they have their bags. Bag collection, and border checks on international flights, take time after landing.
- Check the private-car pick-up zone rules and any fee on the airport website so you are not circling the terminal.
Dropping someone off
- Confirm the departure terminal on the booking.
- Use the public drop-off zones at the T123 Transport Hub or the T4 Transport Hub; drop-off there is free (Melbourne Airport). Check any time limit on the signs or the airport website.
- Rideshare drivers drop off along Departure Drive and at the T4 Transport Hub, Level 1 (Melbourne Airport).
- If you want to walk them in, check the airport website to see whether you need to park rather than stop, and what parking there is.

A pre-booked private transfer can collect your guest and take them to the door. Before you book, ask the provider: can I book for someone else, where will the driver wait (kerb or arrivals hall), and is waiting time included if the flight is late?
